TRAINING & MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

This program focuses on educating, empowering and supporting ECD practitioners to create a safe, loving and stimulating environment that enables young children to develop through play, using toys made solely from recycled materials. We assist them in unlocking the ability of economically disadvantaged preschool children to develop resilience, learn through play and reach their full potential through a sustainable learning programme, and encourage a vibrant future where children are loved, well-rounded, and thriving.

WASTE 2 TOYS TRAINING WORKSHOPS

The Singakwenza Waste2Toys Training Workshops teach parents, practitioners and community workers how to make their own toys and teaching materials using recycling, and how to play with these with their children to develop foundational skills. Our goal at these workshops is to help practitioners and parents understand that it is the play that is important, not how much the toys cost. Expensive equipment isn’t what determines how well children learn. The same skills are developed when using a skipping rope.

LEARN@HOME PROGRAM

Our Learn@Home program reaches children in their homes. We run workshops for parents or primary caregivers based on activity boxes that contain carefully selected toys, ready made from household packaging, to develop a wide range of vital preschool skills. The training teaches the parents how to set up over 100 different learning activities and games using the materials in the boxes, and how these will help with holistic development of their children. Children learn best in a warm, engaged and caring relationship with the adults in their homes, so the Learn@Home boxes are designed to help them to provide simple, fun, hands-on activities that their child/children will enjoy. Any toys that break can easily be remade by the parent.
